The Debate Club

The Debate Club is a governmental insitution led by umbrellataste. It aims to foster collaboration between citizens, primarily younger ones.

Functions

It's assigned with the task of regularly hosting structured debates between citizens, the Esteemed Scholars acting as moderators, giving out points and stopping the debates if things get too far. It was created with the intention to bring the younger population more invested in society, but it also hosts regular debates between adults.

Format

Structured debates follow the following template:

1. Both parties will make opening statements where they both present their arguments
2. Opposing parties respond to these points by offering counterarguments
3. Throughout the debate, the moderator will take notes of numerical scores and assign points to both parties
4. Participants are asked to summarize their stances
5. The moderator will reveal the scores

If one or both parties are out of arguments or out of responses, the moderator will ask questions about the topic that could evoke new arguments. If the opposing party stil doesn't come up with anything, the other party wins. If both parties are unable to come up with something, both parties lose.

If a stalemate happens, the moderator will introduce a tiebreaker round where both parties are given 1 minute to continue the debate. Whoever comes up with the best counters, wins.
